Can you take prozac while you’re pregnant?
<< What do u think of my first page and thesis for my RESEARCH PAPER ON BPD? What do think of this research BPD? >>
I see my OBGYN tomorrow and my therapist has requested medication for General Anxiety Disorder. I know it will be helpful but I don’t want to harm my baby! Anyone have any insight on this?

If you are already taking it, please continue to take it,until you talk with your obgyn. I was on Zoloft for the same thing as you. but ran out before getting pregnant. I expressed concerned at my obgyn office but it was this the wrong person. i confided in the clerk who schedules appts for c-sections..well,she told me no. I knew I was suffering BAD from post part em depression after he was born, and literally going nuts. I went back to the Dr,and immediately was prescribed the medication. It changed everything. I was able to also take this through my whole pregnancy when I was pregnant with my next baby. This has no real connection, but I’d like to think so…the baby that was born to me when I did not take the medicine, is the hardest to deal with child. he is emotional, sensitive, throws tantrums,etc..etc.. my next baby, she is the perfect little angel. She slept through the night by 4weeks(besides breastfeeding her,but i don’t count that). Oh,and i breastfed while taking the medication it did nothing bad to the baby. She is the most sweet loving, angel well adjusted child anyone could ever ask for,and she’s 2 at that age when kids are hard to deal with. Maybe it’s because her mommy kept with the meds and stayed sane, for her sake, and she was surrounded by nothing but happiness and love. Most people who have not positively experienced anti depressant drugs, or those who are not really familiar will say no,but they are not informed.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmI dont think so, and to be safe until your appointment…I would suggest not taking it. Better to be safe than sorry!
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmi wouldn’t suggest it AT ALL.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmumm I would def ask your doctor first, I dont think you can take drugs like that while pregnant.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmOgf course consult your DR. I was also on another med like that when I got prego. Alot of mlg too. BUT….believe it or not, I was able to go off of them, and I feel fine. It was easier than I thought it would be.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmI dont think the doctor would want you to take it. And if you do you would want to take it in moderation. Good luck.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmYour best bet is to speak with your obgyn about the risks with take’n any medication while pregnant.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmask your ob before filling the prescription,… I had a friend who safely took Zoloft.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmYou need to ask your ob about that tomorrow not us
November 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmProzac is actually one of the very few SSRI’s that have a lot of research behind it. Taking it during pregnancy is okay and even recommended if it is taken for depression or sever anxiety. The benifits outweigh the risk in this situation. Ask you OB but Do Not stop taking the medication. Anxiety is funny in pregnancy and either gets worse or goes away completley and you feel great. (I once knew a women who had 12 kids because of this lol) If you feel like you want to stop and your OB says its okay to do so make sure you taper your dosages and not quit cold turkey. The withdrawl effects are not bad with prozac (Paxil is the worst) but you still want to give your body time to adjust. Good luck with the pregnancy!!
