Sweetie, you can’t just "stop" this. You need to get more in-depth help than a school counsellor.
Ask your counsellor to assist you in finding a psychologist or psychiatrist (which is better, because they can prescribe drugs). You really need to see one. Your counsellor is also in charge of a couple hundred other students and won’t be able to give you the time and attention you need right now. Don’t worry about offending him/her. They know their limitations and will probably be delighted to help you find more help.
When you see your therapist, keep in mind that this person might not fit with your needs, or does not make you feel comfortable. This is perfectly fine – most people have to "shop" a bit before they can find the person they feel comfortable and safe with.
If they suggest antidepressants, please don’t say absolutely not. Antidepressants have gotten a bad rap over the years, shadowing the millions of people they actually help. The first prescription may not be right for you. You may find that it doesn’t seem to be helping after a few weeks, or that it produces side effects you can’t tolerate. It is your therapist’s job to find the right medication for you.
Please, please don’t be prejudiced about antidepressants. They have helped so many people. Many give up if their first prescription doesn’t work, saying "drugs are not for me". But antidreppresants allow the heavy feelings to lift, and make you feel stable, so you feel able to address the underlying problems. If you can’t get those heavy feelings in check, you might not be able to focus on what started this all in the first place. Once you start working on those underlying problems, the heavy curtain of depression may lift by itself, and you won’t need to be on the drug forever.
I just re-read what I’ve written and I realize I probably sound like an infomercial for drugs. But that’s not the case. I’m speaking from lifelong experience. You need someone who can really put their focus on you and not be distracted by several hundred other teens in their charge. Medication might not be necessary at all. But you DO need further help. Ongoing depression can affect your grades and social life, and both of those carry lifelong consequences.
Remember that YOU are in charge of your mind and body, these are only suggestions, as with the suggestions of a therapist. If you are not comfortable with something, you have the right to say No. Don’t fear that you will lose control. And remember, if you and your therapist do go the way of antidepressants, you don’t have to tell anyone if you’re not comfortable with it. And one last reminder, therapy is just as important. A counselor cannot give you the attention you need. But when you go to a therapist, and if you are prescribed meds, this may help you more than anything else to address your underlying problems, once your emotions are stable enough to address these issues.
Good luck, sweetie.
