am i having panic attacks?
i think im having either panic attacks or anxiety attacks. but at the same time i feel like im being over-dramatic about the whole thing and am making a big deal out of nothing. ive looked up all the symptoms and generally had 7 or 8 out of 13 listed symptoms. i usually get my "panic attacks" before doing anything in front of the class. oh yea, im a 13 year old girl in 7th grade if it makes a difference. what happens is my chest hurts, my heart pounds so hard it actually jerks my body (just barely, but i still noticed) and it beats rapidly and i get incredibly shaky and no matter how hard i try to tense (or "flex" im no body builder) i cant control myself. im very self concious of myself too i second guess literally everything i say (even writing this) and one time i was just lying in bed trying to go to sleep when all the sudden my chest hurt like crazy it felt like there was a huge wieght on it that i couldnt move, and it made it hard to breathe. please tell me if im being dramatic!

this sounds like it could be a glucose problem[low blood sugar],or you could have a heart rhythm problem[the heart hesitates between regular beats],irregular rhythm. i have both and i’m fifty three,so you can get checked by a doctor to [rule out these problems]if the test are normal, then there is a possibility that you have anxiety.i also take medication for this. i have panic attacks at times, what youv’e described sounds like a possibility of this disorder.it can be helped with medication.you can be pushing yourself too hard, trying to do too much,if so, slow down, take your time and do the very best you can .if you don’t succeed according to your standards, remember, you are a person and people make mistakes.god bless you .take care. susie

March 1st, 2010 at 4:36 amthere is no need to worry, it happens to alot of people, what you have is actually anxiety and panick attacks, not that is normal but it a relief to know that it is a health issue that you and your parents need to take care so you can get medicine to control this symptoms. My best advice is for you to go to the doc. and tell what you are telling us. Don’t stress out so much, there is a solution….sincerely………..me
March 1st, 2010 at 4:36 amIt sounds to me like you are having panic attacks. It’s ok to tell someone.
March 1st, 2010 at 4:36 amI had these starting when I was 9, but back then, no one believed it was possible in children. I think they know better now.
You may not be able to take any medicine, nor should you, since they are situation-based sometimes, but there are breathing techniques you can learn, among other things.
Just ask to go see your pediatrician, or family doctor first.
yes you are. go see a doctor maybe he can prescribe you something.
March 1st, 2010 at 4:36 amWhat you have described certainly sounds like what is referred to as Generalized Anxiety. Having to stand in front of a room full of people can make anyone feel anxious at times, some more than others. Do not be afraid to discuss these episodes with your parents or even a guidance counselor at your school. While many answers to your question may advice you to simply be put on medication, try and address things from different points first. Seeing how you are 13, your body itself is going through changes both mentally and physically and this can wreak havoc on your hormones at times (whether male or female). Anxiety is something we all experience at one point or another, but if it starts to interfere with your normal daily activities then it certainly should be addressed. Personally, I would recommend an age appropriate physcial check up with your physician, if you have not already had one. This will give you the opportunity to voice your concerns, have questions answered and help put your mind at ease. Overall, it is important that you let your parents know about these episodes so they can get you the proper help and enable you to enjoy your precious teen years. Good luck and take care.
