Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

April 22nd, 2009 at 7:03 amAs above in answer one but for 13 years … also can be inherited and just takes a stress trigger or 2 to set it off. Gotta be a chemical factor too as the anxiety has no triggers, it just comes for no apparent reason.
April 22nd, 2009 at 7:03 amPanic attacks are fairly common and having one does not mean that you have panic disorder. For example, if you are feeling very stressed or overtired, or if you have been doing excessive exercise, you might have a panic attack.
Symptoms may include trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, chest pain (or chest tightness), sweating, nausea, dizziness (or slight vertigo), hyperventilation, paresthesias (tingling sensations), vomiting, and sensations of choking or smothering. During a panic attack, the body typically releases large amounts of adrenaline into the bloodstream. Symptoms of panic disorder include sudden attacks of fear and nervousness, as well as physical symptoms such as sweating and a racing heart. During a panic attack , the fear response is out of proportion for the situation, which often is not threatening. Symptoms: Sudden, extreme apprehension, fear, or terror, often associated with feelings that a catastrophe is imminent. Physical symptoms include shortness of breath, palpitations, chest pain, sweating, a sensation of smothering, and fear of going crazy or losing control.

Anxiety can be good for us, helping us to avoid dangerous situations, but if it becomes severe enough to affect the way we live our lives then it becomes an anxiey disorder.
